N & R is a band that is based in New York City, with the songwriting done by Ryan Schumann. Ethan Joseph plays the violin, J.D. Fetcho plays the drums, and an ever revolving cast of characters fills in otherwise. Zacahry Fischer and Tony Mastrioanni were both active members in 2012, and Pat Atkins and Michael Schallau were before that.
The band records in somewhat odd ways; for the most part, the songs are brought in 60% recorded and then overdubbed. Notable exceptions have been "Election Day" and "It's Not So Late", which were both developed together as a band.
The band has two albums out, the first of which, 1848, was recorded entirely by Ryan, and thus suffers greatly in terms musicality. The second album, Pick Up Yourself, has major and frequent contributions from the band.
An EP of drum machine beats, tonally stretched violins and acoustic guitar is set for release this summer. Keep in touch!

Some bands I'll throw in there that have influenced me (Ryan) greatly: The Kinks, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Dirty Projectors, The Beatles, Animal Collective, second Viennese school, Mahler. JD is more influenced by punk, Ethan is a classicaly trained violinist who plays many different styles of music across New York.
